Last week we talked about Las Vegas planning to demolish the 2020 sign. In this week’s casino news recap, we’re talking about an even bigger demolition – Donald Trump’s casino in Atlantic City is going to be blown to pieces, with the highest bidder to press the button.
Atlantic City is planning to set up an auction, in which the winner will get to demolish the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. The casino in question used to form the centerpiece of America’s playground, together with two other Trump-branded casinos. However, that’s all in the past; not only did Trump Plaza end up bankrupt, but its 39-floor building is going to disappear from Atlantic City’s landscape.
In other news, poker fans will be glad to learn that High Stakes Poker is back for a new series. The show will feature some of the biggest names in the world of poker – Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmouth, and Bryn Kenney.
Fans of betting will be glad to hear that several online sportsbooks have released odds for the potential matchup between undefeated champ Floyd Mayweather and YouTuber Logan Paul.

Atlantic City’s Trump Era to End with a Blast
On Thursday, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr said that the demolition of Trump Plaza is going to be postponed. Instead of January 29, as it was previously scheduled, the implosion of the building will happen a few weeks later, most likely in mid-February.
Still, the postponement of the demolition was not the most interesting revelation we heard from Small in this press conference. What really made the headlines is the city’s plan to auction off the demolition.
Everyone’s invited to the auction, and the highest bidder will get to press the button. The whole point of the auction is to collect money for charity. All the proceeds will go to New Jersey’s chapter of the Boys & Girls Club of America.
“I want to raise at least a million dollars and I think we can accomplish that,” said Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr.
The auction is going to be handled by an independent auction house Bodnars Auction. Anyone interested can register for the auction using this link. At the moment of writing, there are 17 bids placed, the highest being $172,500.
A Brief History of Donald Trump’s Atlantic City Businesses
In 1976, New Jersey voters approved the legalization of casino gaming, confining the industry to only one place in the state – Atlantic City. The law came into motion a year later, and in 1978, the seaside city got its first casino, Resorts International.
Fast-forward to the mid-1980s and Atlantic City’s casino industry is making a lot of money, which put it on the radar of rich businessmen from around the US. One of those was Donald Trump, who in 1984 launched Trump Plaza Atlantic City.
Situated on the iconic boardwalk, the casino turned out to be Trump’s longest-running casino in Atlantic City (it closed down after 30 years of business).
In addition to Trump Plaza, the former US President also owned Trump World’s Fair and Trump Taj Mahal, which also closed down due to bankruptcy in the 2010s.
Trump also owned Trump’s Castle, a hotel, casino, and marina, which was launched in 1985. In 1997, it changed its name to Trump Marina, and in 2011, the property became known as Golden Nugget Atlantic City, after being purchased by Landry’s Inc.
Bitcoin Regulations Could Start a New Era in Online Gambling
Last week, Bitcoin was all over the news, after its price broke the $20,000 mark, eventually going to over $23,000. Another Bitcoin-related news is that Treasure Secretary Steven Mnuchin is working on a new set of regulations for the cryptocurrency space.
Last week we heard rumors that the U.S. Treasury and Secretary Mnuchin were planning to rush out some new regulation regarding self-hosted crypto wallets before the end of his term. I'm concerned that this would have unintended side effects, and wanted to share those concerns.

Rumor has it that the outgoing Trump administration is going to set up regulations that could harm the business of crypto exchanges. At the same time, the new laws could change the online gaming business for the better.
By forcing the crypto industry to comply with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) rules, Trump’s administration would effectively make online gambling safer for American users. Making deposits/withdrawals using Bitcoin and other cryptos would be made more reliable.
Fraudulent operators would not be able to steal anyone’s winnings. Until that happens, users have no other option but to put their faith in top-rated US casinos and stay away from those blacklisted ones.

Online Sportsbooks Release Odds for Mayweather vs Logan Paul
Floyd Mayweather (50-0) has agreed on an exhibition boxing fight with Logan Paul (0-1), which will take place on February 20. The undefeated champ is obviously a huge favorite against Paul, whose main occupation is being a YouTuber.

Several online sportsbooks have already released their Mayweather vs Paul odds, which suggest the Money is in for some easy money. Anything but a win for the undefeated boxing legend would be a huge surprise. Still, oddsmakers also think the fight will go the distance, something which did not happen the last time Mayweather was in the ring.
His most recent fight was an exhibition match with MMA fighter Conor McGregor, which saw Notorious losing to TKO in Round 10. Although the Irishman had no previous boxing experience, he did have a background in combat sports.
Logan Paul, on the other hand, is an amateur boxer, with only one fight in his portfolio. In November 2019, he fought against British YouTuber KSI (JJ Olatunji) and lost by split decision after six rounds.
