Interesting State Facts
The 22nd state named is none other than Alabama. However, this is not the only cool thing about this state. It, like all other states, has a nickname! Alabama’s name has changed many times over time, but its first nickname was, “The Cotton State” due to the abundance of cotton that was grown there. It is a land that has warm to hot moist weather year round and beautiful grounds. The highest point of it is the Cheaha Mountain at only 2,405 feet.
Nestled among the many port cities of the Gulf, it has been a lucrative state for trade and thus, sometimes battle. Remember the quote, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead”? It was said during the Battle of Mobile Bay by Admiral David Farragut on August 5, 1864. This was not the only famous battle hosted here. In fact, President Jackson earned his title of war hero at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814 where there is now a beautiful park for those looking to spend the day outside.
The largest city is Atlanta where you can catch a Falcons game, their NFL team or enjoy southern cooking at one of the 2,127 restaurants. Alabama also became a very popular place for space exploration due to our first rocket to the moon being built here. Now, kids can enjoy going to space camp and millions enjoy touring the world’s largest space museum in Huntsville.

There are no slot machines by major manufactures such as IGT and Williams, or Vegas style table games found anywhere in the state legally. The are however class II electronic bingo machines that are very similar to traditional video slots. Some come so close they offer free spins and bonus rounds. This is because there is no state regulation on casino gambling as it is left to the individual counties, but there is for bingo. The machines are set up to look and act just like the real thing, but the payback is almost always substantially smaller.
